January in Paraguay
Hey ya´ll! Guess where I am now!
Bienvenidos a Paraguay! We arrived on the 17th of January and quickly began to settle in. Kris started Spanish lessons a few days after arriving so he could begin communicating with Paraguayans in the community. Here he is with Claudio, an instant friend, Claudio´s brother, and another guard who works at the end of the block. They are almost always working in front of the Starkey´s home where we stayed the first week and visit almost daily. Please pray for their salvation!
A couple of weeks after arriving, we got our first opportunity to work in a mobile clinic which targets smaller country Baptist churches which need help with outreach. Tonya served as the triage nurse and took all the patients´blood pressures and took blood sugars of those who were at risk for diabetes. We saw about 80 people come in over about 5 hours and everyone recieved the opportunity to hear the gospel.
Josiah enjoys spending time with the Starkey children, Caleb, 5 and Lucas, 3, but sometimes gets a little worn out by their activity! Here he is playing in the pantry in their kitchen with Caleb.
We found that the hotter the weather, the more fun Josiah has in the pool! He didn´t want to get out of the refreshing water when we went for a swim in the kiddie pool in the Starkey´s back yard one day.
Temperatures often climb into the triple digits, so cool water is a welcome treat! Josiah definitely agreed this day!
Let´s go! This is our transportation in Asuncion. We walk and Josiah rides! When we go a long distance, we wait for a bus and pray that it will take us in the right direction! One of our projects while here is to map the bus routes in the city to help future volunteers or newcomers find their way around if they don´t have a car to use.
Ivan, the grandaughter of the Starkey´s household employee, loves to play with Josiah. She often kept him entertained while Tonya got other things done. Too bad summer break is over and she had to go back to school!
Josiah´s Grandmother and Grandaddy Dixon got a last photo with him when we were dropped off at the airport on the 16th. They will see him again in just a few weeks though!
